Carla Gardiner’s Journey to Chelsea Women’s Academy
A promising young footballer from Cumbrian, 16-year-old Carla Gardiner, has taken a significant step towards her aspiration of joining the ranks of the Lionesses by signing with the esteemed Chelsea Women’s Academy.
Career Milestones
Originally hailing from Arnside, Carla’s football journey began at the age of eight. She started her career playing for local boys’ teams such as Kendal United and Milnthorpe Boys. Over the years, she has honed her skills at several prestigious academies, including those of Blackburn Rovers, Liverpool, and Manchester United.
New Opportunities at Chelsea
Carla received an exciting opportunity towards the end of her season, during her GCSE exams, when Chelsea Women’s Football Club expressed interest in signing her for their U21 Women’s Academy. This exciting development included an invitation to visit their training facilities in Cobham, Surrey, which she shares with the Chelsea men’s team.
A Personal Touch
Her father, Martin Gardiner, shared his thoughts on this milestone: “From starting to play at eight years old with her brother George, to now moving down to Surrey to a homestay to start pre-season, Carla is keen to try and become a topflight professional player and hopefully also represent The Lionesses in the coming years.”
Preseason Plans
As Carla embarks on this new chapter, she and her teammates are preparing for a preseason tour in Spain. They will compete in matches within the National Academy U21 League as well as participate in National Open Age Cup competitions, providing her with valuable experience on the field.
