2024 Academic All-District Women’s Soccer Teams Recognized
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – The CSUN Women’s Soccer team proudly announces that senior Ashly Torres and juniors Cailey Jackson and Sami Kolin have earned College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District accolades for their stellar performance both on the pitch and in the classroom.
The CSC awards program honors the nation’s top student-athletes based on their achievements in sports as well as their academic excellence. To qualify for this prestigious recognition, student-athletes must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50 and must either be a sophomore academically or have participated in at least 90 percent of the team’s games this season, or started in 66 percent of the matches.
Ashly Torres: A Career Year
Hailing from Simi Valley, Torres concluded her collegiate soccer journey in 2024, starting all 19 games in the midfield. She led the Matadors with a career-best three assists and achieved personal highs in shots (12) and shots on goal (5). Over the course of the season, Torres accumulated 1,444 minutes on the field and played the full duration in 11 matches. Throughout her time with CSUN, she appeared in 76 games, starting 66 from 2021 to 2024, where she recorded one goal, five assists, and seven points.
As a double major in Business Administration with concentrations in Marketing and Management, Torres is set to graduate in the spring. During her time at CSUN, she was honored as a CSC Academic All-District Team member in 2023, in addition to receiving two Big West All-Academic Team selections and Big West All-Freshman Team honors.
Cailey Jackson: A Standout Forward
California native Jackson enjoyed a remarkable season with the Matadors in 2024, starting every match at forward for the first time. She finished the season as the team’s second-highest scorer, netting a career-high four goals and accumulating 10 points. Additionally, Jackson ranked second in shots taken with 35, 19 of which were on target. She contributed three points in Big West matches, including the game-winning goal against Cal State Bakersfield. For her outstanding contributions this season, she earned her first All-Big West Honorable Mention recognition after the regular season.
Currently majoring in Public Health, Jackson was named to the Big West All-Academic Team last fall, showcasing her commitment to both her studies and athletics.
Sami Kolin: Defense with Determination
From Moraga, Kolin made an impressive mark in her third year with CSUN by starting all 19 matches in 2024. She contributed one assist and took four shots, with two on goal. A key player in the defensive lineup, Kolin played a total of 1,641 minutes this season, ranking third on the team. She saw full match time in 17 of the 19 games, including nine Big West matchups, and helped the team achieve three shutouts.
Kolin is pursuing a degree in Business Administration with a focus on Marketing and was named to the Big West All-Academic Team last season, evidencing her dual commitment to academics and athletics.
Since its inception in 1952, the College Sports Communicators has honored over 38,000 deserving student-athletes from various sports and divisions through its distinguished Academic All-America program, recognizing elite scholar-athletes for their immeasurable dedication and hard work.
