Cal State Fullerton Women’s Volleyball Encounters Consecutive Losses
The Cal State Fullerton women’s volleyball team faced significant challenges over the weekend, suffering their third consecutive defeat in straight sets during a two-match road trip. The Titans fell to both UC Riverside and UC Davis, marking a tough stretch in their season.
Match Against UC Riverside
In a pivotal match on Saturday, CSUF was unable to overcome the UC Riverside Highlanders, losing with set scores of 25-15, 25-12, and 25-18. This game held special significance for head coach Nicky Cannon, who returned to Riverside to face her former team following her appointment as head coach at Cal State Fullerton.
Despite a commendable performance from senior Ketesia Hall, who led the Titans with nine kills, the team struggled to keep pace with the Highlanders. UC Riverside outperformed CSUF in various key statistics, including total points, kills, aces, blocks, assists, and digs. Although the Titans started strong in each set, they were ultimately unable to sustain their momentum as the Highlanders pulled ahead.
Match Against UC Davis
Earlier that week, on Thursday night, the Titans faced the UC Davis Aggies in what was their third Big West matchup of the season. Similar to their previous match, CSUF fell short, with set scores of 25-12, 25-20, and 25-8. This match highlighted the team’s struggles, as they recorded low totals in several offensive categories, including only 13 kills and 13 assists, along with a mere one service ace and 19 digs—marking one of their least productive outings of the season.
Conversely, UC Davis excelled offensively, notching an impressive 52 kills and 50 assists. The Titans showed some improvement in the second set, where they played their strongest defense of the night and managed to keep the score competitive at 25-20. However, UC Davis maintained their composure to secure the win.
Current Season Standings
Following these two losses, Cal State Fullerton now stands at a record of 6-10 overall and 1-3 in conference play. The Titans are navigating an unprecedented 16-game road trip due to necessary maintenance at their home facility, Titan Gym.
Upcoming Matches
Looking ahead, the Titans will attempt to turn their fortunes around as they return to competition at home. They are set to host Cal State Northridge in their season home opener on Thursday, October 9, with the match beginning at 6:00 p.m.
