IU Indianapolis Women’s Cross Country Team Begins 2025 Season
Bloomington, Ind. – The IU Indianapolis women’s cross country team launched its 2025 season this past Friday, August 29, at the IU Sam Bell Invitational. Under the leadership of head coach Antonio McDaniel, the team showcased a healthy mix of experienced runners and new talent.
Race Highlights
True freshman Riley Flynn was a standout, leading the team with a commendable time of 14:57.65 in the 4,000-meter race, placing 13th overall. Veteran runner Hannah Robbins closely followed with a finishing time of 15:07.90. Carina Alanis, another seasoned participant, completed the race in 15:14.80, while freshmen Emily Bruns and Kaylynn Bedel rounded out the top five for the team.
Top Performers
Indiana’s Claire Overfelt captured the individual title with an impressive time of 13:45.21, leading the Hoosiers to dominate the event by claiming the top seven spots and nine of the top eleven finishes. Other notable performances from the team included Wini Barnett (15:33.98) and Julynne Spidell (16:09.63), alongside freshmen Carson Parks (16:13.47) and AnnMarie Gibson (16:22.67). Sophomore Julianna Crow completed the team’s entries with a time of 16:47.18.
Coach’s Insights
Reflecting on the team’s performance, Coach Antonio McDaniel expressed satisfaction, stating, “It was a solid start for our group this morning. I’m really happy with how our freshmen competed in their first meet. It was also an impressive start for Hannah Robbins. She’s put in a lot of work this summer and it shows.”
Looking Ahead
The IU Indianapolis team is set to compete again on September 20 at The Rumble in the Fort, which will take place in Fort Wayne, Indiana. With the strong performances seen in this initial meet, the team is poised for a promising season ahead.
