Old Bats Showcase Team Spirit and Skill
In an exciting matchup, the Old Bats of Michigan Made triumphed over Superior Service with a score of 8-5 on Wednesday. The ladies in blue demonstrated exceptional teamwork and energy right from the first pitch. Danielle Thoune, player-coach of the Old Bats, praised her team’s sharp defensive plays and offensive patience throughout the game.
After a tied first inning, the Old Bats surged ahead in the second, scoring five runs. Key plays included a base hit from Thoune, followed by catcher Aubrey Zackel, who set up AnnaMae Nolan for a pivotal two-RBI single. The momentum continued as Mel Baker’s double contributed to their commanding lead.
Thoune highlighted the importance of confidence and hustle, saying, “We kept pressure on the bases, stayed aggressive, and capitalized on opportunities.” Despite a late attempt by Superior Service, the Old Bats held onto their lead to secure the victory.
“Game ball goes to Mel Baker,” Thoune noted, acknowledging Baker’s outstanding pitching performance.
Northern Wishes Deliver in High-Scoring Affair
Following the Old Bats’ victory, Northern Wishes continued the trend of dominant second innings, overpowering JB’s Sales and Service 14-8. After falling behind early, Northern Wishes regrouped and posted five runs in the second inning thanks to crucial hits from Theresa Anderson, Sylvia Aho, and Brita Haatula.
The offensive onslaught didn’t stop there, with Northern Wishes adding four runs in both the fourth and fifth innings. Player-coach Kim Aho commended her team’s hitting prowess and praised pitcher Larissa Peterson for her effective performance on the mound.
Gold Standard Edges Out Finnish Coat
In another notable game at the Boneyard in Lake Linden, Gold Standard secured a close 4-2 victory against Finnish Coat. Emily Jokela was the standout player for Gold Standard, taking the win with eight strikeouts while also contributing a home run, a triple, and a single to the team’s efforts. Lena Myhren took the loss for Finnish Coat, despite solid performances from Brynn Arko and Josie Hembroff.
