Censure Resolution Filed Against U.S. Rep. Cory Mills
Rep. Yvette Clark, a Democrat representing New York, has moved to censure U.S. Rep. Cory Mills, a Republican from New Smyrna Beach, based on a series of alarming allegations. During a recent speech in the House, Clark outlined several personal scandals and legal troubles involving Mills.
Key Allegations Against Mills
The resolution cites various accusations against Mills, including:
- Claims of violence from a romantic partner.
- Alleged unethical financial dealings concerning military contracts.
- Controversy over the awarding of a Bronze Star under potentially false pretenses.
Details of Personal Allegations
Clark elaborated on serious allegations involving two women with whom Mills has had relationships. One former girlfriend accused him of violent behavior while they were together in Washington, D.C. A statement from Sarah Raviani, the woman involved, reported that bruising was present on her body during the incident but she ultimately chose not to pursue charges.
Clark referred to police records that indicated officers noted visible injuries on Raviani. She stated, “The 27-year-old woman accused her significant other for over a year of having grabbed her, shoved her and pushed her out the door.” Mills has maintained that he is confident investigations will vindicate him, although it has been noted that a police recommendation for his arrest was not pursued by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Threat Allegations
Another woman, Lindsey Langston, alleged that Mills threatened to release intimate images in retaliation for her ending their relationship. Clark highlighted Mills’ conduct, asserting, “Mills threatened to release nude images and other intimate videos of her and threatened to harm her future romantic partners in retaliation for her decision to end a relationship.”
Ethics Investigation and Financial Disclosures
Clark also touched upon an ongoing House Ethics investigation focusing on allegations that Mills failed to disclose income from federal contracts and accepted unlawful contributions through his campaign committee. Mills, in his defense, has claimed that these accusations stem from political motivations and that similar matters have previously been dismissed by the Federal Election Commission.
Disputed Military Honors
Further complicating Mills’ situation are accusations regarding the legitimacy of a Bronze Star he received in 2021. While the honor was given for alleged heroic actions during a conflict in Iraq, some former colleagues testified they did not recall his presence at the scene. Mills continues to assert that the events can lead to varying accounts due to the chaotic nature of combat.
Political Context
As the situation unfolds, Mills finds himself targeted by House Democrats as they prepare for the 2026 election cycle. Clark has called for immediate action, urging her colleagues to censure Mills, which she claims would uphold the dignity of the House of Representatives.
Mills has responded to the allegations by emphasizing his intention to keep personal matters private, particularly regarding his ongoing divorce, insisting these should not be politicized.
