Announcement of New Head Women’s Soccer Coach
UTICA, NY – John Czarnecki, the Athletic Director at SUNY Poly, is excited to introduce Colleen McTygue as the new Head Women’s Soccer Coach. With more than 25 years of coaching experience, McTygue is poised to bring a wealth of expertise and a proven history of achievement to the women’s soccer program. Throughout her career, she has successfully guided teams to conference championships, NCAA tournament appearances, and has been dedicated to the holistic development of her student-athletes.
“We are excited to have Coach McTygue join us at SUNY Poly,” stated Czarnecki. “Her extensive background in collegiate coaching, unwavering commitment to the success of student-athletes, and ability to foster relationships within the community make her an ideal addition to our team. We eagerly anticipate the advancements and successes our women’s soccer team will experience under her guidance.”
Coaching Experience
McTygue has held significant coaching roles, including her position as Head Women’s Soccer Coach at Averett University (2017-2019) and SUNY New Paltz (1997-2016). Under her leadership at SUNY New Paltz, her team claimed a conference championship and made a remarkable Sweet 16 run in the NCAA tournament in 2011. Her skill in recruiting talent, nurturing players, and cultivating a positive team culture has been pivotal to her success.
Commitment to Academic Excellence
Beyond her achievements on the field, McTygue is highly regarded for her dedication to academic success. She pioneered an Academic Success Program focused on ensuring her student-athletes thrive both in sports and academics.

I look forward to collaborating with the team and launching into this new chapter while becoming a vital part of this inspiring community.”
Broader Coaching Journey
McTygue’s coaching background also extends to the middle school level. Recently, she served as the Boys Soccer Coach at Kernodle Middle School in North Carolina, where she led her team to a conference championship in 2024. Her extensive experience in teaching and sports management, including her tenure as Sports Director at the YMCA in Ragsdale, North Carolina, has significantly bolstered her skills in program management, budgeting, and event coordination.
Playing Career and Academic Qualifications
As a former professional soccer player, McTygue competed for esteemed clubs such as Arsenal and Millwall FC in the Women’s Professional League in England. She holds a Master’s degree in Educational Administration with a concentration in Higher Education Leadership from SUNY New Paltz, along with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Plattsburgh State University.
