Odisha’s Chief Minister Launches Subhadra Yojana and Infrastructure Initiatives
Bhubaneswar: In a significant move towards empowering women in Odisha, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced the distribution of Rs 5,000 each to over 1.24 crore beneficiaries under the Subhadra Yojana. This event took place on Saturday in Jeypore, Koraput district, where the Chief Minister highlighted the scheme’s impact on women’s economic independence.
Empowering Women Through the Subhadra Yojana
Majhi emphasized the transformative role of the Subhadra Yojana, stating, “Subhadra Yojana has successfully created a new chapter of progress and transformation in the lives of many women. It not only strengthened their families economically but also empowered them to become entrepreneurs.”
New Infrastructure Projects for Koraput District
During the same event, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for 436 projects, aggregating over Rs 452 crore. Additionally, he inaugurated 126 projects valued at Rs 309.42 crore, focusing on essential infrastructure across various sectors such as education, health, roads, and tourism. “Once implemented, these projects will further accelerate the development of the district,” Majhi added.
Future Transportation Developments
Majhi also announced imminent transportation improvements, including the introduction of a Vande Bharat Express connecting Jeypore directly with Bhubaneswar. Further, he revealed plans to revive the local paper mill and establish a new college in Jeypore.
Financial Aid to Women
Highlighting the scheme’s significance, Majhi described the Subhadra Yojana as a beacon of hope for mothers facing financial hardships. “The government’s goal is to empower all such women to become self-reliant and contribute to building a self-reliant India,” he stated.
Progress in Kotia Panchayat
The implementation has also reached remote areas, with women in the Kotia panchayat registering substantial participation in the yojana. From 2,078 applications, 1,797, 1,795, and 1,783 beneficiaries received the first, second, and third installments respectively.
Government’s Commitment to Women’s Empowerment
Deputy CM Pravati Parida reinforced the government’s commitment to ensure no eligible woman is left behind, whether in urban Bhubaneswar or in the more secluded regions of Kotia.
Application Process Reopened
The application portal for the Subhadra Yojana has reopened, allowing new applicants to benefit from this initiative. Successful women from the scheme, alongside those who contributed to its implementation, were acknowledged at the event.
Background of the Subhadra Yojana
In a move launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 17 of the previous year, the Subhadra Yojana is designed to financially support women with a total aid of Rs 50,000 distributed over five years. The installments are disbursed biannually on significant dates: International Women’s Day on March 8 and Rakshabandhan.
