Charlotte Women’s Basketball Head Coach Tomekia Reed has finalized her coaching staff for the upcoming 2025-26 season. The new team includes:

  • Aaron A. Swinson – Assistant Coach
  • Shaaliyah Lyons – Director of Basketball Operations
  • Jariyah Covington – Director of Player Development
  • Jaylen Pointer – Video Coordinator / Player Development
  • Trevor Boyd – Assistant Sports Performance Coach

Aaron A. Swinson – Assistant Coach

Aaron A. Swinson joins the Charlotte coaching staff after a season as the associate head coach at Cal State Bakersfield. Prior to this role, he was an assistant coach at Hofstra University for four years, where he took part in on-court coaching, recruiting, and academic oversight for players.

His experience includes a brief tenure as interim head coach at Northwestern State University and assistant roles at Prairie View A&M along with Cincinnati from 2011 to 2016. Swinson began his coaching career at Tulsa, and he has professional playing experience with the Phoenix Suns and international teams from 1995 to 2005.

As a player, Swinson was a standout at Auburn University, where he served two years as team captain, ranked fifth nationally in field goal percentage, and was named First Team All-SEC.

Shaaliyah Lyons – Director of Basketball Operations

Previously serving at Hofstra since 2021, Shaaliyah Lyons steps into her new role at Charlotte. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a focus on Sport Management from Seton Hall, where she was the head student manager for the women’s basketball team.

Outside of her college responsibilities, Lyons founded the Together We Conquer Life Skills Basketball Camp in New Jersey, focusing on providing mentorship and academic resources for student-athletes. Her philanthropic engagements include a mission trip to Malawi with Managers on a Mission in 2018.

Jariyah Covington – Director of Player Development

Formerly a player under Coach Reed at Jackson State, Jariyah Covington transitions to a coaching role after a successful season as a graduate assistant at UA Pine Bluff. Covington contributed to three SWAC regular season titles and two NCAA tournament appearances.

Alongside her team achievements, she garnered individual honors such as Second Team All-Conference and Sixth Man of the Year. Covington also played a significant role at East Central Community College, where she was a team captain and earned multiple MVP awards.

Jaylen Pointer – Video Coordinator / Player Development

Jaylen Pointer joins the staff at Charlotte after two seasons as a lead student manager and a year as a graduate assistant. His educational background includes bachelor’s degrees in Business Finance and Management Information Systems.

Pointer was integral to the daily operations of the team during his time as a student manager and continued his support through video coordination as a graduate assistant.

Trevor Boyd – Assistant Sports Performance Coach

Coming from Northern Illinois, Trevor Boyd brings experience in developing year-round strength and conditioning programs for various teams, including women’s basketball and men’s golf. He previously served as the interim Director of Strength & Conditioning at Norfolk State.

Boyd has also held positions at Delaware State and as an intern at Old Dominion, further enriching his professional background in sports performance.

With this new coaching lineup, Charlotte Women’s Basketball looks to build on its success in the American Athletic Conference.
