Royce Chadwick Announces Retirement from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Women’s Basketball
After dedicating 13 years to the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women’s basketball program, Royce Chadwick has officially announced his retirement as head coach.
Chadwick joined the Island University in 2012, becoming the fourth head coach in the history of the A&M-Corpus Christi women’s basketball team. A Legacy of Excellence
Chadwick’s record speaks volumes; he is celebrated as the winningest coach in Southland Conference history, amassing an impressive 211 conference victories by the conclusion of the 2021-22 season. This achievement eclipsed the previous record of 210 held by James Smith from 1987 to 2004 at Northwestern State. Over his career in the Southland Conference, Chadwick’s record stands at 250 wins and 125 losses, which includes 13 victories at Sam Houston, 111 at Stephen F. Austin, and a remarkable 126 wins at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
Milestone Achievements
In the 2023-24 season, Chadwick celebrated reaching a monumental career total of 750 victories. He retires with an overall record of 765 wins and 485 losses. Notably, 202 of those victories were achieved while leading the Islanders, making him the first coach—male or female—to hit this significant milestone for the Islanders program.
A Heartfelt Farewell
“Words cannot describe the feelings I have for this place and all the people,” Chadwick expressed. “This is home to me and Islanders are my family. We have had a fantastic journey, and I am immensely proud of all our achievements. I am genuinely grateful for the wonderful years and incredible teams we had together. My deepest thanks to every administrator, fan, staff member, assistant coach, and especially every player for their dedication to our team.”
