BEND, Ore. — On Tuesday evening, Hawthorn Healing Arts Center held a special Open House focused on women’s health, inviting the community to explore their offerings.
Situated on NW Louisiana Avenue in Bend, the center provided attendees with light refreshments and a complimentary five-minute wellness check. This event served as an opportunity for guests to interact directly with healthcare professionals.
Interactive Q&A Session with Nurse Practitioner
Attendees engaged in a live Q&A with Nurse Practitioner Melissa Porras, who specializes in menopause. Porras shared insights into the various changes women experience during this transitional phase.
“The typical symptoms that people know about are hot flashes and night sweats,” said Porras. “But there’s a lot more than just that. Cognitive effects, such as brain fog, can occur. Over a span of ten years, bone density can decrease by 10%. Other symptoms include random issues like frozen shoulder, fatigue, insomnia, and depression, which arise as hormones fluctuate and slowly decline.”
Understanding Health and Vitality
Co-owner and Naturopathic Physician Joshua Phillips emphasized the center’s holistic approach to health. “The vision of Hawthorn Healing Arts Center was created from the understanding that health, vitality, and recovery from illness is a multi-faceted and sometimes complex process,” he explained.
According to Phillips, the center aims to position itself as a community hub. They offer workshops and classes in addition to a retail space that sells herbs, vitamins, and supplements. He noted that most patients are local residents seeking ongoing care.
