Celebrating Women’s Contributions in Science at Nagaland University
The Department of Chemistry at Nagaland University (NU) recently hosted a significant event to commemorate the Global Women’s Breakfast (IUPAC GWB 2025). This annual gathering aligns with the United Nations’ International Day of Women and Girls in Science on February 11 and is driven by the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) to promote dialogue about gender equity in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
Panel Discussion: Strategies for Advancement in Science
The highlight of the event was a focused panel discussion on “Possible Strategies for Accelerating Equity in Science.” Spearheaded by the department’s women research scholars and guided by Prof. Upasana Bora Sinha, this discussion aimed to illuminate the diverse experiences of women in academia.
Six esteemed panelists shared their journeys of navigating academic careers while managing their roles as wives, mothers, and leaders. Their narratives underscored the myriad challenges women face both in their professional domains and personal lives, while also celebrating the resilience required to surmount these obstacles.
Engaging Dialogue Among Research Scholars
The event encouraged lively engagement, allowing research scholars to express their insights, confront challenges, and articulate aspirations. This exchange of ideas proved to be an enriching experience, promoting awareness and support for women in the scientific community.
