Celebrating 20 Years of Empowerment and Community
Members of the women’s running club have expressed their amazement at the remarkable journey of the club as they recently celebrated its 20th anniversary.
A Legacy of Fitness and Friendship
The Ricky Running Sisters, established in 2004, brought together past and present members on September 28 to commemorate two decades dedicated to fostering fitness and strengthening community ties.
The celebratory event took place at Rickmansworth’s parkrun.
Founding Principles
Founded by Debra Smith-Gorick in September 2004, the club has seen consistent growth, boasting an annual membership of over 100 women.
Rooted in the values of “fun, friendship, and fitness,” the club’s motto appeals to women of all ages and running abilities, featuring a dedicated walking group as well.
A Vision Realized
Debra reflected on the club’s journey, stating, “We initiated this club to create a supportive environment where women could enjoy running together.”
“Witnessing the club’s continued growth and development is simply amazing.”
Leadership and Community Spirit
Two of the founding members, President Rose Goodchild and Vice President Julie Everett, continue to lead the club into its third decade while maintaining its original membership fee of £15 per year. Discounts of £5 are available for members over 60, with additional offers available from July 1st.
Rose shared her insights, remarking, “Being part of this club for 20 years has been an incredibly fulfilling experience.”
“Our journey goes beyond running; it’s about the strong friendships we’ve fostered along the way.”
“For us, running has always represented more than just physical exercise; it’s about forming a nurturing community that encourages each other to excel.”
Welcoming New Members
The Ricky Running Sisters continues to invite women aged 16 and older to join their ranks, providing resources for fitness, health, and information about upcoming events.
