TLC Recovery House Celebrates Four Years of Support and Inspiration
Somerville, Ala. — On Saturday, the TLC Recovery House marked its fourth anniversary, celebrating its mission of aiding women in overcoming addiction.
Fostering Community Connections
The founder of TLC Recovery House, Crystal Steelman, emphasized the event’s purpose: to connect individuals seeking recovery with numerous supportive resources. This year’s celebration hosted over 30 recovery organizations, highlighting the diversity of paths to recovery.
“We love to get the chance to help everyone find what fits for them, you know cause everybody’s recovery looks different, so we wanted to bring everyone in one space,” said Steelman. “If we reach one person today and they need help, then they can find the help they need.”
Engaging Activities and Community Support
The anniversary event featured a variety of activities including raffles, personal testimonies, and an atmosphere of celebration. Proceeds from the event are allocated to the establishment of the Josiah House, a new recovery initiative for men, inspired by Steelman’s late son, Josiah, who lost his battle with addiction.
“Josiah’s story helps to save people’s lives even if they don’t know him,” said Anastasia Farris, Josiah’s sister, noting the impact of his testimony. “The story and testimony we have is super beneficial for the people out there who think they can’t make it or think they are too far gone.”
Empowering Resources and Overcoming Stigmas
Participating organizations expressed their enthusiasm for sharing vital resources aimed at assisting those grappling with addiction issues. LaShawn Tuttle from Miracle House emphasized the importance of breaking down barriers to seeking help.
“We’ve all had the reservations of stepping out and asking for help,” Tuttle stated. “Know that stigma no longer stays with us; there is no stigma anymore—we do recover.”
Bridgette Stout from Addiction Recovery added her perspective on the growing support for recovery initiatives, noting a positive trend in community engagement.
“Recovery is really spreading; we are actually from Florence, Alabama, so it’s a blessing to come to this type of stuff and see the recovery spread worldwide. It just gives them inspiration and motivation,” Stout remarked.
