South Carolina Gamecocks Women’s Track & Field Team Excels in NCAA Championships
Record-Breaking Performances
The South Carolina women’s track & field team has been making headlines this season, significantly impacting the record books while competing in both the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Championships. Their stellar performances have earned accolades and recognition at multiple levels.
Notable Individual Achievements
Sophomore JaMeesia Ford emerged as a star athlete, clinching the Commissioner’s Trophy at the SEC Outdoor Championships with gold medals in the 100-meter and 200-meter events. She also teamed up with senior Jayla Jamison, along with sophomores Cynteria James and Zaya Akins, to secure gold medals in the 4×100 meter and 4×400 meter relay events. Furthermore, Ford added to her accolades by securing gold in the 200-meter at the SEC Indoor Championships, leading to her being named the SEC Women’s Runner of the Year following the Outdoor Championships.
Another standout, sophomore Salma Elbadra, claimed the SEC Outdoor title in the 1500-meter event and was recognized as the SEC Women’s Newcomer Runner of the Year.
Team Success at NCAA Championships
The Gamecocks sent a total of eight athletes to the NCAA Outdoor Championship held in Eugene, Oregon, where Ford once again made waves by winning the championship in the 200 meters. Jamison also performed admirably, finishing seventh in the same event, both earning All-American honors for their efforts.
In the 4×100 meter relay, the team of Jamison, James, Akins, and Ford finished as runners-up, setting a new program record with a time of 42.40 seconds and receiving First Team All-American honors.
All-America Recognition
Ford achieved her third All-America distinction at the National Championship, finishing as the runner-up in the 100 meters with a time of 11.14 seconds, only .003 seconds behind USC’s Samirah Moody. Additionally, both Elbadra and Cheyla Scott were named to the Second Team All-American squad after placing in the Top 16 in their respective events.
Overall Team Performance
The South Carolina women’s track & field team concluded the season with a commendable seventh-place finish at the NCAA Championships, accumulating 28 points. This marks their best team performance since finishing third in 2006 and their first Top 10 finish since placing 10th in 2019.

As the academic year wraps up, the athletes are encouraged to rest and prepare for the upcoming 2025-2026 season, aiming to continue their impressive legacy in women’s track and field.
