Cartier’s Empowerment Initiatives for Women Entrepreneurs
Cartier, renowned for its luxurious jewelry, is equally committed to supporting women in philanthropy and entrepreneurship. Established in 2006, the Cartier Women’s Initiative (CWI) aims to uplift women-led businesses across various sectors, including social, economic, and environmental fields. Over the nearly two decades since its inception, CWI has assisted 330 entrepreneurs and disbursed a total of $12.2 million in grants.
Global Reach and Financial Support
The Cartier Women’s Initiative is open to applicants worldwide, providing successful candidates with a grant worth $100,000 to catalyze their initiatives. This platform fosters the development of innovative solutions aimed at addressing some of the world’s most pressing challenges.
The CWI Impact Awards
In a move to further amplify its mission, Cartier introduced the CWI Impact Awards in 2020, honoring previous fellows who have made significant contributions to their fields. Recently, a select group of guests and honorees gathered at the World Expo in Osaka, Japan, to celebrate these innovators at the inaugural “Women’s Pavilion,” a concept that first debuted five years ago at the Expo in Dubai.

Spotlight on Inspiring Fellows
During the pavilion event, nine previous fellows presented compelling accounts of their transformative work. For instance, Nabita Banka, a fellow from 2013, revolutionized access to public sanitation in India with her project, Biotoilet. She stated, “We had an idea for a solution, then we proved it worked. However, I knew I couldn’t tackle open defecation and lack of access to sanitation facilities by myself.”
Another notable example is Caitlin Dolkart, a 2019 fellow, who observed the inadequacies in emergency response in Nairobi. Reflecting on her experience, she remarked, “The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that approximately 50 percent of emergency-related mortality and morbidity could be avoided in low-income countries if ambulance response times were faster.” Her solution, the Flare app, has enabled ambulance drivers to communicate directly with local hospitals, bridging a critical gap in emergency medical services.
Future Opportunities and Application Process
Looking ahead, the winners of the 2025 Impact Awards will be eligible for an additional $100,000, along with mentorship and increased media exposure to further their impactful projects. Applications for the Cartier Women’s Initiative are currently open and will remain accessible until June 24, 2025, at 8:00 A.M. EDT (2:00 P.M. CEST).
