California Women’s Basketball Secures Victory Over Charlotte
Game Overview
On November 16, 2025, the California Golden Bears triumphed over Charlotte with a final score of 69-44 at Haas Pavilion. This victory propelled the Bears into the championship game of the Raising the B.A.R. Invitational, scheduled for later that evening.
Strong Defensive Performance
The Bears demonstrated solid defense throughout the game, limiting Charlotte to just 32.1% shooting from the field and allowing only two three-pointers. This marks the third consecutive game in which Cal has held its opponents to 52 points or fewer.
Offensive Highlights
Despite a rocky start with only 27.6% shooting in the first half, California regrouped in the second half, shooting 59.3% overall and an impressive 72.7% from beyond the arc. This surge allowed the Bears to outscore their opponents 47-22 in the latter part of the game.
Freshman Puff Morris shone brightly, achieving season highs of 17 points, six assists, and eight rebounds. Her five three-pointers mark the most by a Cal freshman since Lulu Twidale accomplished the feat on February 25, 2024.
Mjracle Sheppard was another standout, contributing 16 points and tying her career high, along with six rebounds and five steals. Additionally, Taylor Barnes added 13 points, marking her third double-digit scored game of the season.
Game Dynamics
Charlotte initially set the pace, leading the Bears into the first quarter and even holding a six-point advantage with just under eight minutes remaining in the second quarter. However, a series of three-pointers from Gisella Maul, Morris, and Barnes shifted the momentum, giving Cal a 22-19 lead.
Following a brief surge from Charlotte to reclaim a two-point lead, California seized control for good with consecutive three-pointers from Sheppard and Morris, ultimately maintaining a double-digit lead for the remainder of the match.

I know we need to be better and I’m trying to gain confidence in the good things that we’re doing. I loved our second half,” commented Smith.
