Recognition for Tennis Achievements in the CAA
In a week showcasing top talent in collegiate tennis, the CAA honors standout performances for both men’s and women’s categories. Delaware’s Tobey Lock and North Carolina A&T’s Ian Pedersen have been named as co-recipients of the Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, while Hedda Gurholt from William & Mary and Elon’s Helen Sarikulaya have shared the accolade for women.
Men’s Tennis Co-Players of the Week
Tobey Lock, Junior, Delaware (Bristol, United Kingdom)
Lock achieved an impressive 2-0 record in singles, leading Delaware to victories over Rider (7-0) and Drexel (6-1). Competing at the No. 2 position, he secured the match against Rider with a 7-6 (2), 6-4 win over Matteus Froberg Dahlin and delivered a decisive 6-2, 6-2 victory against Will Burridge in the match against Drexel.
Ian Pedersen, Senior, North Carolina A&T (Playa Blanca, Canary Islands)
Pedersen contributed two hard-fought three-set victories, extending North Carolina A&T’s winning streak to 11 matches prior to facing #1 Wake Forest. He narrowly defeated Norfolk State’s Deniz Okyay at No. 2 singles and battled through Leon Harder at No. 1 against LIU.
Men’s Doubles Team of the Week
Sean Joseph, Senior, William & Mary (Chantilly, Va.)
Gur Trakhtenberg, Freshman, William & Mary (Raanana, Israel)
This dynamic duo excelled at No. 2 doubles, boasting a 2-0 record, which was pivotal for William & Mary’s success in securing the doubles point against Liberty and UNCW.
Women’s Tennis Co-Players of the Week
Hedda Gurholt, Senior, William & Mary (Oslo, Norway)
Gurholt shined with a flawless 2-0 record at both No. 1 singles and doubles. Her stellar performance helped William & Mary claim 7-0 victories against Temple and Drexel. She triumphed over Temple’s Irmak Ozturk and Drexel’s Elisa Rigazio.
Helen Sarikulaya, Junior, Elon (Rockville, Md.)
Sarikulaya had an exceptional week, achieving victories at No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles, as Elon triumphed against LIU (6-1) and Campbell (7-0). Her victories showcased her talent and ability to clinch crucial points for her team.
Women’s Doubles Team of the Week
Cornelia Kack, Freshman, Delaware (Sigtuna, Sweden)
Alina Vasilenko, Senior, Delaware (Moscow, Russia)
Kack and Vasilenko have played a crucial role by clinching the doubles point in both of Delaware’s recent matches, contributing to significant conference victories against Stony Brook (5-2) and Hofstra (6-1).
