PROVIDENCE, R.I. – In an intense matchup on Sunday, the Bryant University women’s basketball team faced their first setback of the season, falling to Providence College with a final score of 62-53. This marks a turning point for the Bulldogs, who had previously held a strong record of 7-0.

Game Overview

From the beginning, Bryant established momentum, quickly building an 11-3 lead in the first five minutes. Key plays included four points from Mimi Rubino and a three-pointer by Martina Boba. However, responding with determination, the Friars launched a 12-4 run to conclude the first quarter, ending it at a balanced 15-15.

During the second quarter, both teams exchanged leads with Providence narrowly outscoring Bryant 8-6. As the half neared its conclusion, a final push from the Friars led to them holding a five-point advantage at halftime, with a score of 32-27. Maranda Nyborg contributed significantly by scoring four of the final six points for Bryant in the half.

Second Half Dynamics

The Friars began the second half strongly, asserting a 9-5 run and pushing their lead to nine points with a significant three-pointer from Mancini. Providence maintained pressure, outscoring Bryant 15-2 over a seven-minute stretch, ultimately stretching their lead to 15 points at 51-36.

Closing Phase

The final quarter saw a defensive struggle, with both teams finding scoring difficult. Providence managed to maintain a slight edge, outscoring Bryant 4-2 through the first part of the quarter. Although the Bulldogs rallied to score 15 points in the closing minutes, it wasn’t enough to reverse the outcome, resulting in a final score of 62-53.
