Triumphant 50k Run to Support Forest Holme Hospice
Challenge Overview
On October 4, Sarah Elizabeth from Bournemouth, along with her friends Chloe and Sophie, completed a challenging 50k ultra marathon called “Run to the Sea.” This event commenced at Moors Valley and concluded at Hengistbury Head.
Through their efforts, the trio aimed to raise £2,500 for the Forest Holme Hospice in Poole, dedicating the run to their late friend Jane, who spent her final days there.
An Emotional Journey
Sarah, 43, reflected on the emotional significance of the day, noting the support from family and friends who came to cheer them on. “It was very emotional with lots of supporters,” she commented.
Despite initial concerns regarding adverse weather conditions, the participants were fortunate to have the wind at their backs on the beach, enhancing their running experience.
A Decade of Friendship and Running
Having started their running journey a decade ago, Sarah, Chloe, and Sophie have engaged in numerous marathons and running challenges over the years. Sarah explained, “I did the run to the sea last year and decided that the girls would do it with me this year in memory of Jane, who passed away last September.”
Running for Jane
In remembrance of Jane, the group donned her favorite color, pink. The route they ran even passed a bench dedicated to Jane on Evening Hill, where her family gathered to cheer during the race, adding to the day’s significance.
Sarah shared how the hospice provided Jane comfort during her last weeks, adding, “They just made her time there so comfortable and gave her a lot of peace and love when she needed it.”
Closing Reflections
Sarah emphasized that participating in the run felt fitting, saying, “Jane would have laughed at us because she always thought our running challenges were crazy.” The day served not only as a tribute to their friend but also as a celebration of their enduring friendship and commitment to supporting causes close to their hearts.
