Blessing Health System’s Breast Cancer Awareness Store Opens in Quincy
Quincy, Illinois (KHQA) — The Blessing Health System is commemorating Breast Cancer Awareness Month by launching a temporary pop-up store featuring clothing and accessories. This unique shopping experience will run until this Saturday.
Purpose of the Store
“This is our 19th Annual Breast Cancer Awareness store. We provide opportunities for the community to come and help spread awareness throughout the community,” said Dawn Herzog, the Breast Center Manager for Blessing Health System.
Located at the Blessing Conference Center, 2800 Chestnut Street, the store offers a variety of apparel. Its primary goal is to raise awareness about breast cancer and encourage women to prioritize regular screenings.
Impact on the Community
“Other women in the community are going to see this and say, ‘I need to get my mammogram.’ So, hopefully, it’s saving lives with that early detection,” remarked Herzog.
Open from October 1-3 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and again on Saturday, October 4, from 9 a.m. to noon, the store aims to bring vital awareness to the importance of early detection in breast cancer.
Supporting Breast Cancer Patients
All profits from the store will be directed to the Blessing Services Foundation Fund. This funding assists breast cancer patients receiving treatment at Blessing and provides financial support for women in need of mammograms.
Early Detection Recommendations
The American College of Radiology advises that women discuss their breast cancer risk with their healthcare providers by age 25, with annual mammograms starting at age 40.
“We want to detect that cancer early and save lives. So that’s kind of the whole point of this store is to get that awareness out there, get women in here, support other women that are going through this journey, and then also, spread that news,” concluded Herzog.
