BIRMINGHAM – The UTSA women’s soccer team secured a victory over UAB in the American Athletic Conference Championship, finishing with a score of 2-1. The match took place on Monday in Lakewood Ranch, Florida, and highlighted a competitive showing from both teams.

Match Summary

UTSA opened the scoring with a goal from Michelle Polo in the 31st minute. This goal was assisted by teammates Bri Carrigan and Ava Jackon, giving the Roadrunners a pivotal 1-0 lead heading into halftime.

In the second half, Aaliyaiah Durden extended UTSA’s lead to 2-0 in the 57th minute, finding the net with a well-placed shot following Leah Varela’s assist. UAB responded late in the match, with Lailah Stewart scoring in the 79th minute, marking her eighth goal of the season with assistance from Avery Berryman. Despite UAB’s efforts, the Blazers could not find an equalizer.
