BJP Accuses Kejriwal and Atishi of Misleading Women and Elderly Ahead of Elections
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has leveled serious allegations against Arvind Kejriwal, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor, and Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, accusing them of engaging in a “political fraud” by misleading women and the elderly in Delhi with promises of non-existent welfare schemes as the Assembly elections approach.
During a press conference, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva challenged the ruling AAP to provide official notifications for these purported schemes. He emphasized that Kejriwal should apologize to the citizens of Delhi for what he termed the “fake” ‘Mahila Samman’ and ‘Sanjeevani’ initiatives.
Opposition Leader in the Delhi Assembly, Vijender Gupta, highlighted that individuals who registered for these schemes lost money by providing their personal banking information. He urged affected individuals to reach out to the BJP, assuring them that the party would assist in recovering their financial losses.
Sachdeva stated, “Kejriwal and Atishi have been exposed. They stand guilty of political deception in the eyes of the public.” He referenced public notices issued by the Delhi government that distanced itself from Kejriwal’s announcements regarding financial aid of Rs 2,100 per month for women and free medical treatment for the elderly under the ‘Sanjeevani Yojana’.
The BJP leader further criticized AAP’s promises to rectify faulty water bills, ensure clean drinking water, and enhance road infrastructure, claiming these commitments were only made to regain power.
“As their false promises began to crumble, Kejriwal attempted to repackage the previously announced Mahila Samman scheme, but it has not been effective,” Sachdeva asserted. He accused Kejriwal of having deceived women in Punjab with similar promises before attempting to lure Delhi women with the promise of monthly financial aid.
Sachdeva compared the actions of AAP leaders in registering citizens to those of “digital fraudsters,” collecting personal data for potential misuse. He warned that both schemes, announced without proper legal notifications, are misleading, especially for women and senior citizens.
Kailash Gahlot, a former AAP minister who has recently joined the BJP, publicly accused Kejriwal and Atishi of lying about the existence of a legally approved ‘Mahila Samman’ scheme, urging them to release the necessary notifications.
Despite the controversy, AAP has commenced the registration process for eligible women and elderly individuals for the two schemes.
Sachdeva criticized the ruling party for misleading the public, stating, “For the first time in history, a chief minister and the ruling party are disseminating false information about schemes, compelling officials to issue public notices to alert the people of Delhi.” He pressed Atishi, who holds a constitutional position, to clarify the legal standing of any such schemes.
Moreover, Gupta raised concerns regarding the integrity of the registration process, noting that even male applicants were being invited to fill out forms for a scheme intended solely for women. He expressed bewilderment over the registration of male applicants when the scheme is designed for women, suggesting deeper issues of fraud within the initiative.
He disclosed that in numerous cases, One-Time Passwords (OTPs) collected during the registration were misused to withdraw money from individuals’ bank accounts fraudulently.
This ongoing situation has ignited significant discussions regarding the political landscape in Delhi, particularly concerning the welfare of women and the elderly, raising questions about transparency and accountability among those in power.
