MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women’s swimming and diving team celebrated a standout performance from senior swimmer Gabriela Martin, who has been recognized as the Big 12 Women’s Swimmer of the Week following her impressive results in a recent meet against Delaware.
This accolade marks the first time in Martin’s collegiate career that she has received such an honor. Her achievement came after she clinched victory in the 100-yard freestyle race with a time of 50.66 seconds and secured a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle, clocking in at 1:48.84.
In addition to her individual success, Martin also played a crucial role as a member of the relay team, which finished second in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:26.55.
Martin is the second swimmer from the women’s team to earn a Big 12 weekly accolade this season, following freshman Macey Larson, who was recognized as Co-Newcomer of the Week earlier in the year.
The Mountaineers will next compete against Loyola (Md.) on Sunday, Nov. 2, at 1 p.m. This event will take place at The Peak Health Aquatic Center in Mylan Park, Morgantown.
