She was named to the first-team All-ACC in both her freshman and sophomore seasons. In her sophomore year, she achieved an impressive average of 17.5 points and 9.8 assists per game.
Her junior season saw her score an average of 16.9 points, alongside 8.4 assists, while hitting 37% from beyond the arc. Her skills were highlighted in several record-setting performances:

A Legacy of Resilience
Current women’s basketball head coach Felisha Legette-Jack remarked, “The ultimate fighter!” illustrating Mangakahia’s indomitable spirit. She embodied the team’s mantra, “We Fight On,” and her legacy will continue to inspire future generations at Syracuse:
“Tiana embraced it, she lived it and inspired others through her fight. We are fortunate to have had Tiana as one of our own. Her legacy will live forever at Syracuse. May she rest in peace.”
Life Beyond College Basketball
Mangakahia’s journey took a challenging turn in June 2019 when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. After undergoing chemotherapy, she had a double mastectomy and made a triumphant return to basketball for her final season (2020-21), showcasing her fighting spirit on the court.
Prior to her time at Syracuse, Mangakahia began her basketball career in Australia with the Women’s National Basketball League, playing for the Australian Institute of Sport and the Townsville Fire. After her collegiate career, she attempted to join the WNBA and trained with the Phoenix Mercury. However, her professional trajectory continued overseas in Russia and France, where she played until her retirement in 2023, following a recurrence of cancer.
Despite her struggles with health, Mangakahia returned to the court earlier this year, competing with the Southern District Spartans in Australia’s NBL1:
“We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Tiana Mangakahia,” stated Basketball Australia. “Her return to the court in the NBL1 was a powerful reflection of her strength and enduring love for the game.”
