Empowering Young Minds: Women in Science Ambassadors Initiative
Overview of the Initiative
From January 30 to February 3, 2023, a collaborative effort among CERN, the University of Geneva’s Scienscope, EPFL, and the Annecy Particle Physics Laboratory (LAPP) invites outstanding female scientists and engineers to engage with local school students. This initiative aims to inspire and ignite curiosity about science in young minds.
Objectives of the Program
The program seeks to:
- Encourage students to explore careers in science and technology.
- Demystify scientific processes through engaging presentations and hands-on experiments.
- Promote gender equality in STEM fields by demonstrating accessibility of these careers to girls.
- Potentially guide students towards discovering their future vocations within science or technology.
Participation Success and Volunteer Call
The initiative celebrates its seventh consecutive year, building on a successful track record with 121 presentations held in 2022. There is a continuous call for more female scientists to participate as ambassadors in this transformative program. Volunteers play a crucial role in reaching out to young students and fostering their interest in scientific fields.
Eligibility and Requirements for Ambassadors
Women working in science, technology, engineering, math (STEM), computer science, education, or communication are encouraged to register. The following criteria apply:
- Presenters affiliated with CERN, the University of Geneva, EPFL, and LAPP will be prioritized.
- Non-affiliated individuals are also welcome to inquire about participation.
- Ambassadors will present 60-minute sessions to groups of up to 30 students aged 7 to 15.
- Most presentations will be conducted in French (95%); a few may be available in English.
- Attendance at a briefing session is mandatory prior to engaging with students.
How to Get Involved
If you are passionate about inspiring the next generation of scientists, consider volunteering by signing up before the deadline on December 11, 2022, at 11:59 p.m.
