On Saturday afternoon, the women’s tennis team of Baruch College concluded the fall segment of their regular season, achieving a decisive 7-0 victory over the Pioneers from William Paterson University in Wayne, New Jersey.
The Bearcats displayed dominant performance right from the doubles matches, sweeping all three. Aishika Yadav and Lucia Herranz Sanchez delivered a commanding win at first doubles with a score of 6-0. Likewise, the duo of Jacqueline Moreno and Maria Calvo Prado secured their match at second doubles, also 6-0. The Pioneers were unable to field a team for the third doubles match, awarding Baruch the initial team point.
As singles play commenced, the Bearcats continued their strong momentum. They achieved victories in the first five singles matches before clinching the final point through forfeit. Yadav achieved a noteworthy 6-0, 6-1 win at first singles, marking her 40th career singles victory, which ties her for second place on Baruch’s all-time singles wins list. Other players contributing notable victories included Sanchez at second singles, defeating her opponent 6-0, 6-0; Prado at third singles, with a similar 6-0, 6-0 score; Doyeong Lee at fourth singles, winning 6-0, 6-1; and Maria Rojas at fifth singles, finishing strong at 6-0, 6-0.
This win sets an optimistic tone as the Bearcats wrap up their regular season. They will return to match play on Tuesday, facing Brooklyn College in the CUNYAC Semifinals, set to commence at 3:00 p.m. at the U.S. National Tennis Center located in Queens.
