Construction Progress on the Al and Jane Nahmad Women’s Cancer Center
Visible construction efforts are in full swing for the Al and Jane Nahmad Women’s Cancer Center at Baptist Health’s main campus in Kendall. Metal beams and initial framing have begun to rise on the southwestern side of the property, bringing the vision closer to reality.
Facility Overview
Spanning 155,000 square feet, this outpatient facility is expected to be completed by the end of 2026. The center aims to enhance the existing capabilities of Baptist Health’s Miami Cancer Institute, focusing on cancers that primarily affect women, such as breast, gynecological, and skin cancers.
- Approximately 65% of patients at the Miami Cancer Institute are women.
- Breast cancer patients represent 27% of the institute’s total population.
The new center will provide a wide array of services, including:
- Plastic reconstructive surgical consultations
- Mohs surgery for skin cancer
- Chemotherapy infusions
- Access to clinical trials
Design and Amenities
The facility will be situated within the four-story Keeley Pavilion, which features a modern, light-filled design aimed at fostering a calming environment for patients. Amenities will include:
- Diagnostic imaging and exam rooms
- Medical offices
- A café and boutique
- A shared lobby with six elevators
Additionally, plans include a new freestanding six-story parking structure, Garage No. 13, that will accommodate 1,093 vehicles and include electric vehicle charging stations. This structure will also feature advanced safety measures and architectural enhancements.
Community Involvement and Support
The project is named in honor of Al and Jane Nahmad, long-time supporters of Baptist Health whose philanthropic contributions have been crucial for the project’s initiation. Al Nahmad, former chair of the Miami Cancer Institute’s Operating Board, expressed the urgent need for comprehensive cancer care in South Florida:
“This community is growing rapidly, and so is the need for world-class cancer care,”
Jane Nahmad added:
“We are advocates for women’s health, and supporting the Women’s Cancer Center from its inception is very meaningful for our entire family.”
Future Implications
Baptist Health leaders assert that this facility will not only allow for an expansion of clinical teams and research trials but will also bring state-of-the-art technology to better serve patients. The Women’s Cancer Center will be the first of its kind in the region, addressing the growing demand for specialized cancer care.
