NASSAU – The Princeton Women’s Basketball Team secured a decisive victory against the Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks, defeating them 81-62 on Sunday afternoon at the Imperial Arena. This win moved Princeton’s record to 5-1, while the Hawks fell to 4-4 for the season.
Game Overview
The matchup began with Maryland Eastern Shore taking an early lead, scoring the first four points. However, Princeton quickly took control of the game, launching a 12-0 run that allowed them to go up 17-6 after the first quarter. During this stretch, Princeton’s defensive strategy proved effective, limiting the Hawks to just two baskets and forcing seven turnovers.
First Half Highlights
In the second quarter, Princeton continued its dominance, instigating a 14-6 run to extend their lead to 31-12, marking their largest advantage of the half. By halftime, Princeton was ahead 38-21.
Momentum Shift
Following halftime, Maryland Eastern Shore made a notable effort to close the gap with a 12-4 run, narrowing the score to 49-37 late in the third quarter. Despite this resurgence, Princeton responded effectively; Ashley Chea hit a critical three-pointer, followed by two free throws from Sarah Lessig, which kept the Hawks from gaining any further momentum.
As the game progressed, the Hawks managed to pull within 12 points again at 61-49 with just over six minutes remaining. However, Princeton quickly answered with two three-pointers from Chea and contributions from Skye Belker and Emily Eadie, pushing the lead back to 20 points at 71-51. Maryland Eastern Shore was unable to threaten the Tigers for the remainder of the contest.

Ashley Chea was instrumental in the victory, leading Princeton with 18 points and securing five rebounds. Additionally, Skye Belker made a significant impact, finishing with 16 points along with a game-best +25 plus-minus rating. Madison St. Rose and Olivia Hutcherson also made noteworthy contributions, scoring 14 and 13 points, respectively.
The team’s bench showcased its strength, contributing a total of 20 points, with Toby Nweke leading the unit with nine points. This game also marked the collegiate debut for Lessig, who recorded four points and pulled down six rebounds.
