HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Gandy Leadership Academy for Young Women is now accepting applications for its upcoming program. Designed specifically for high school freshmen residing in the Hattiesburg area, this initiative aims to empower young women through leadership training and mentorship.
Launched in 2023 by State Representative Missy McGee, the academy is named in honor of her predecessor, former Lieutenant Governor Evelyn Gandy. This year’s cohort marks the third iteration of the twelve-week program, which has been crafted to enhance leadership skills and community involvement among participants.
Representative McGee emphasizes the rich opportunities available through the academy. “We’ve got so many great women in so many leadership roles in this community, in a variety of different fields, that it really provides these young girls a great opportunity to see women working in a lot of different fields, and maybe there are some things that they would think about doing as they head to college in a few years, decide on a major,” she stated.
The application deadline is set for August 24 at 5 p.m.. Interested candidates can apply by accessing the designated application link provided.
