Ally Tipoff Partnership Extended Through 2028

As women’s collegiate basketball gears up for the new season, a significant development has been announced regarding the Ally Tipoff event. Ally Financial and the Charlotte Sports Foundation confirmed that the partnership will continue through 2028, ensuring that this key showcase remains in Charlotte.

Upcoming Events and Matchups

The Ally Tipoff will take place at the Spectrum Center, featuring high-profile matchups that enhance its reputation as a premier event for women’s basketball. The upcoming schedule includes:

  • A doubleheader in 2026, showcasing a Carolinas rivalry with matches between three-time national champions South Carolina and North Carolina, as well as NC State against Kentucky.
  • A rematch of the 2025 national championship game in 2027, featuring South Carolina against the UConn Huskies, who have claimed 12 national titles.
  • A notable clash in 2028, with historic programs South Carolina and NC State facing off.

Past Success and Future Prospects

Since its inception, the Ally Tipoff has drawn impressive crowds. In its first two years, the event attracted around 15,000 fans, largely due to notable participants like the Iowa Hawkeyes and player Caitlin Clark. South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley emphasized the excitement of returning for the next three years, stating, “We couldn’t be more excited to sign on to playing in the Ally Tipoff for the next three seasons. The atmosphere in Charlotte is remarkable, welcoming fans from all programs.”

Kentucky head coach Kenny Brooks also praised the inaugural event, highlighting the genuine investment Ally has made in women’s sports and expressing hope for another spectacular showcase in Charlotte.

The Significance of Supporting Women’s Sports

Ally Financial is a committed advocate for women’s sports, having previously collaborated with various organizations, including the NWSL and WNBA. The partnership with the Charlotte Sports Foundation aims to elevate women’s basketball by creating a top-tier season opener.

“Women’s basketball needed a real premium tip-off event… building this together was the right decision,” said Stephanie Marciano, Head of Brand and Sports Marketing at Ally Financial. The partnership’s long-term vision reflects Ally’s commitment to fostering women’s sports.

Economic and Community Impact

Hosting the Ally Tipoff aligns with the Charlotte Sports Foundation’s goal of driving economic growth in the region. In the previous year alone, their events attracted over 200,000 fans, generating a remarkable $90 million in economic impact. CEO Will Potts noted the foundation’s strategy to continually enhance Charlotte’s sports landscape, especially through women’s events.

Enhancing the Fan Experience

Beyond the competitive aspect, Ally and the Charlotte Sports Foundation are focusing on enriching the fan experience at the Ally Tipoff. Initiatives include:

  • Basketball clinics in collaboration with the Charlotte Mecklenburg school system.
  • Donation of tickets to local non-profits.
  • Specialized fan experiences, such as expedited entry for Ally customers and promotional giveaways during the event.

“We believe that this event will continue to be the premier women’s college basketball event in the country,” said Potts, underlining the commitment to provide an exceptional atmosphere that resonates with fan enthusiasm and athlete experiences.

Looking Ahead

The 2025 Ally Tipoff is scheduled for November 9 at 3 PM EST and will be broadcast on ESPN. This extended partnership signifies both Ally Financial’s and the Charlotte Sports Foundation’s ongoing dedication to the growth and visibility of women’s collegiate basketball.
