Julien Alfred Dominates Women’s Heats at Tokyo 2025 World Championships

In the opening heats of the women’s 100m at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, defending Olympic champion Julien Alfred set the pace with an impressive time of 10.93 seconds. Competing in the fourth heat, Alfred’s performance was strong enough to secure her a spot among the 24 semi-finalists.
Trailing closely behind her was Daryll Neita from Great Britain, who clocked in at 11.03 seconds, while the leading American, Melissa Jefferson-Wooden, registered a time of 10.99 seconds in Heat 1.
Competitive Spirit of the USA Team
The USA team is on a unified mission to dominate the podium. Jefferson-Wooden expressed her eagerness for the upcoming semifinal round, stating, “Once I felt myself clear, I just shut it down and kept moving on. I’m just looking forward to tomorrow to take it up a notch. I already hold myself to a really high standard and expectations, so the pressures of the outside world, I really don’t feel them.”
She added, “All four girls in my training group are here competing in the 100m, and it’s just a blessing to be able to share the stage with these girls. Hopefully, we’ll all be in the final and can sweep the podium.”
Jamaican Contenders Shine
Also advancing from the heats was Jamaican sprinting icon Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, who aims to conclude her illustrious career on a high note. She qualified with a time of 11.09 seconds, alongside her compatriots Tina Clayton and Shericka Jackson, who posted times of 11.01 seconds and 11.04 seconds, respectively.
Semifinal Matchups
The semifinal rounds will feature intriguing matchups, with Alfred set to race against Fraser-Pryce, while Richardson, who finished fifth overall with a time of 11.03 seconds, will face Jackson, Neita, and White, with Jefferson-Wooden up against Clayton.
The format allowed the top three from each of the seven heats to advance, in addition to the three fastest times, ensuring a thrilling semifinal event.
