Alexander-Carew Secures Victory in NCAA Division II Event
Julia Alexander-Carew, a talented second-year golfer hailing from Oakville, Ontario, has continued her stellar performance this season after clinching a one-stroke victory at the NCAA Division II tournament. Finishing with a total of six-over par 146 over two rounds, she now boasts three wins and two second-place finishes in her six tournaments this season.
This victory marks the second consecutive tournament where a member of the UBC Okanagan Heat has claimed the individual title, following Emily Cornwall’s impressive championship win at the RMC Intercollegiate held at Lake Las Vegas just ten days earlier.
Tournament Performance
In her opening round on Friday, Alexander-Carew showcased her skill with two birdies, two bogeys, and one double-bogey, concluding the day with a two-over par score of 72 and sharing the 18-hole lead. She maintained her momentum with a four-over par 74 in the final round, narrowly outpacing Wayne State’s Abbigail Brodersen to secure her fourth career title at UBCO.
Following her recent triumph, Cornwall, a native of Calgary, continued to shine, finishing tied for fourth place with a score of 12-over par 152. She made a strong climb in the rankings on day two, achieving the best round of the tournament with an even-par 70, which included four birdies and four bogeys.
Team Performance
Additional support came from teammates Bess Chan and Lauren Nedo, who both ranked within the top 20 of the 45-player field, finishing at 22-over par 162 and 26-over par 166, respectively.
The collective effort of the team resulted in their fourth second-place finish of the season, as they recorded a total score of 66-over par 626. Wayne State took home the tournament title with a score of 44-over par 604, while Westminster secured third place at 67-over par 627.
