Alabama Community College Conference Welcomes Women’s Flag Football
The Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) has officially recognized women’s flag football as a new sport, marking a significant milestone for female athletes in the state.
This exciting addition is among the latest athletic opportunities sanctioned by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and will be made available to female student-athletes starting in the 2025-2026 academic year.
Enhancing Opportunities for Female Athletes
ACCC Commissioner Dean Myrick expressed enthusiasm for the new initiative, stating, “This new and exciting sport is going to bring additional opportunities to female student-athletes and provide that chance for them to continue pursuing the sport they love.”
Growth of Women’s Flag Football
Myrick noted that women’s flag football has seen remarkable growth at both the parks and recreation level and within the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA). This surge in popularity reflects a broader cultural trend towards increased female participation in sports.
Leading the Way in the NJCAA
Once competition kicks off next fall, Alabama will host the largest flag football conference within the NJCAA, setting a precedent for collegiate women’s sports and showcasing the talent and dedication of female athletes across the region.
