Prime Minister’s Tribute to Women’s Spirit on International Women’s Day
New Delhi: In a heartfelt address on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called on the nation to honor and celebrate the remarkable spirit of women. To commemorate International Women’s Day on March 8, he announced that he would be transferring control of his various social media accounts to women achievers from diverse fields.
Highlighting Women’s Achievements
During his monthly “Mann Ki Baat” program, Modi expressed his intention for these accomplished women to share their stories and insights on his social platforms. “Let us celebrate and respect the indomitable spirit of women,” he emphasized, recognizing the increasing contributions of women across different sectors. This initiative is reminiscent of a similar gesture in 2020 when he entrusted his accounts to seven pioneering women.
A Powerful Social Media Presence
With millions of followers on platforms like X, YouTube, and Instagram, Modi stands as one of the most-followed leaders globally on social media. In his address, he also reiterated the importance of health and fitness in India, urging citizens to confront the rising obesity epidemic. Citing alarming statistics, he noted that one in eight individuals suffers from obesity, with numbers having doubled in recent years — a concerning increase that has quadrupled among children.
A Call for Health Awareness
To combat this issue, the Prime Minister encouraged the public to reduce their oil consumption by 10% and proposed a challenge where 10 individuals can engage 10 more in this initiative. To further this awareness, he shared audio messages from prominent personalities, including Olympic gold medallist Neeraj Chopra.
Encouraging Scientific Engagement
In addition, Modi urged people to embrace science by spending “one day as a scientist,” by visiting research labs or planetariums to celebrate National Science Day on February 28. He stated, “Like space and science, there is another field in which India is rapidly carving out a robust identity — artificial intelligence.” Following his recent participation in a significant AI conference in Paris, he shared that India’s advancements in this field have garnered international praise.
