Clarkson University Women’s Basketball Team Prepares for 2025-26 Season

As the Clarkson University Women’s Basketball team gears up for the 2025-26 season, the roster is brimming with promise, featuring a balanced mix of new talent and seasoned veterans. With an influx of seven freshmen joining seven returning players, the Golden Knights aim to enhance their standing in the Liberty League.

Coaching Staff and Leadership

The team is led by third-year head coach Sherry Dobbs, alongside first-year assistant Nicole Jeffrey. This coaching duo is poised to guide a squad eager to build on last season’s success. While the integration of first-year players may present challenges, the extensive experience within the team should help navigate early missteps.

Last Season’s Performance and Key Departures

Last season, the Golden Knights improved their performance significantly, achieving a total of ten wins, which marks a six-game increase from the previous year. However, they bid farewell to key contributors including Cassidy Dumont, Raelin Burns, Veronica Tache, and Lexi Huiatt. Their absence will be felt, but the return of top scorer Bella Doyle offers a beacon of strength as she embarks on her senior year.

Star Players and Contributions

Bella Doyle had an impressive previous season, ranking among the conference leaders with averages of 12.0 points, 7.3 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.5 steals, and 1.3 blocks per game. With a shooting percentage of 42.5%, she is anticipated to approach the 1,000-point milestone by the season’s end. Joining her is senior Riley Cullen, who, after transferring to Clarkson last season, made her presence known with contributions in 15 games.

Strength in the Junior Class

The team’s junior class adds depth, having collectively started 93 games over the last two seasons. Key players include:

  • Fallon Griffin: Averaged 8.6 points, showed proficiency with 48 three-pointers.
  • Elizabeth Aiossa: Averaged 4.2 rebounds and 1.4 assists, providing a solid presence inside.
  • Emma Chambers: Contributed 3.2 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game, enhancing frontcourt options.
  • Addie Kea: Key reserve point guard, averaged 3.9 points along with 20 steals.

Resilience and Potential of First-Year Players

Sophomore Sarah Abbott, the team’s only first-year player last season, returns eager to build on her experiences. Though she averaged 1.1 rebounds in nine games, her perseverance amidst a veteran squad demonstrates a promising growth trajectory.

New Additions and Team Height

Despite some concerns regarding size, the Golden Knights will benefit from the Class of 2029. New players such as Kate Campbell, Olivia Powers, and Eliana York stand at 5-9, which should bolster the team’s height, while Maddy Polky and Alexis Kress also bring valuable height at 5-8. Additionally, Natalie Ellrodt and Aliza Flore solidify the guard positions.

In conclusion, with a balanced mix of experience and fresh talent, the Clarkson University Women’s Basketball team is setting its sights on a successful season ahead, ready to compete in the Liberty League and make a mark within the collegiate athletic landscape.
